Description
Amocil is indicated in the treatment of infections due to susceptible ß-lactamase negative strains of microorganisms. These infections include various types of ear, nose and throat infections, lower respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, genito-urinary tract infections, venereal disease, dental abscess, H. pylori infection, and duodenal ulcer disease. It is a broad spectrum penicillin, effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The recommended dosage for adults is 250-500 mg three times daily, while for children it is 125-250 mg three times daily. The reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding it to milk, fruit juice, or water. It is contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients and may have side effects such as diarrhoea, indigestion, or rash. Amoxicillin has a US FDA pregnancy category of B and caution should be exercised when administered to lactating mothers. It belongs to the therapeutic class of broad spectrum penicillins and should be stored in a dry place away from light and heat.
