Indications
- Treats infections due to susceptible strains of microorganisms
- Ear, nose and throat infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Genito-urinary tract infections
- Venereal disease
- Dental abscess
- Combination therapy for H. pylori infection and duodenal ulcer disease
Pharmacology
- Broad spectrum penicillin
- Effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Inhibits biosynthesis of cell wall
- Stable in the presence of gastric acid
- Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 250mg-500mg three times daily
- Children dosage: 125mg-250mg three times daily
- Special dosage for severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection, otitis media, pneumonia, dental abscess, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhea
- Dosage adjustment in renal impairment
Administration
- Reconstituted suspension can be added to milk, fruit juice, or water for administration
Interaction
- Concurrent use of Amocin and Probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels of Amocin
- May affect gut flora and reduce efficacy of combined oral estrogen/progesterone contraceptives
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

- May include diarrhea, indigestion, or rash
- Rare reports of pseudomembranous colitis
