Indications
- Ear, nose and throat infections

Pharmacology
Amoxicillin is a broad spectrum penicillin effective against a wide range of bacteria. It inhibits cell wall biosynthesis and is stable in gastric acid. It is rapidly absorbed and widely distributed in body tissues and fluids.
Dosage
- Adult:
- 250 mg three times daily
- up to 500 mg three times daily for severe infections
- Children:
- 125 mg three times daily
- up to 250 mg three times daily for severe infections
Administration
Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding the required amount to milk, fruit juice, or water.
Interaction
Concurrent use with Probenecid may increase and prolong blood levels. It may affect gut flora, leading to reduced efficacy of combined oral contraceptives.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients.

FDA pregnancy category B. Caution is advised during pregnancy and lactation.
Precautions & Warnings
Possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens should be kept in mind. Discontinue if superinfections occur.
