Indications
- Treatment of infections due to susceptible -lactamase negative strains of microorganisms

Pharmacology
- Broad spectrum penicillin
- Effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Inhibition of biosynthesis of cell wall
- Stable in the presence of gastric acid
- Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
- Peak plasma concentration reached within 1 to 2 hours
- Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 250 mg three times daily
- Increased dosage for severe infections
- Children dosage: 125 mg three times daily
- Recommended dosages for specific infections such as otitis media, pneumonia, and dental abscess
- Dosage adjustment in renal impairment
Administration
- Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding to milk, fruit juice, or water
- Preparations should be taken immediately
Interaction
- Concurrent use with Probenecid may increase and prolong blood levels
- May affect gut flora, leading to lower estrogen reabsorption
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

- Potential side effects such as diarrhoea, indigestion, rash, and rarely, pseudo-membranous colitis
