Pharmacology
- Broad spectrum penicillin
- Inhibition of biosynthesis of cell wall
- Stable in the presence of gastric acid
- Rapid oral absorption
- Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 250 mg three times daily
- Adult dosage for severe infections: 500 mg three times daily
- Children dosage: 125 mg three times daily
- Children dosage for severe infections: 250 mg three times daily
Administration
- Reconstituted suspension administration with milk, fruit juice, or water
Interaction
- Concurrent use with Probenecid resulting in increased and prolonged blood levels
- Effect on gut flora leading to lower estrogen reabsorption
Contraindications
- Penicillin hypersensitivity

- Mild and transient side effects
- Possible side effects: diarrhea, indigestion, rash, pseudo-membranous colitis
Pregnancy & Lactation

- No adequate studies in pregnant women
- Excretion in human milk
