Description
Amoxima is indicated in the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections. It is a broad spectrum penicillin that acts through the inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis.
Indications
- Ear, nose, and throat infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Genito-urinary tract infections
- Venereal disease
- Dental abscess
- H. pylori infection
- Duodenal ulcer disease
Pharmacology
Amoxicillin is a broad spectrum penicillin effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is stable in the presence of gastric acid and rapidly absorbed after oral administration.
Dosage adult
250 mg three times daily, increasing up to 500 mg three times daily for severe infections
Dosage children
125 mg three times daily, increasing up to 250 mg three times daily for severe infections
Dosage additional recommendations
- 3 gm every 12 hours for severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection
- 1 g three times daily for adult and 40 mg/kg body weight daily in 3 divided doses for children with otitis media
- 500-1000 mg three times daily for pneumonia
- 3 gm dose for dental abscess and urinary tract infections
- 2-3 gm single dose with Probenecid for gonorrhea
Administration
Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding the required amount to milk, fruit juice, or water.
Interaction
Concurrent use with Probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels of Amoxima. Amoxima may affect gut flora, leading to lower estrogen reabsorption and reduced efficacy of combined oral contraceptives.
Contraindications
Amoxicillin is contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients.

Pregnancy lactation
US FDA pregnancy category B, caution should be exercised when administered to lactating mothers.
Precautions warnings
Possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens should be kept in mind during therapy.

- Amoxycillin 500mg Injection:
- Intramuscular: Add 2.5 ml water for injection to the vial
- Intravenous: Dissolve in 10 ml water for injection
