Dosage
- Adult: 250 mg three times daily, increasing up to 500 mg three times daily for severe infections.

Pharmacology
Amoxicillin inhibits the biosynthesis of the bacterial cell wall and is stable in the presence of gastric acid. It is rapidly absorbed after oral administration, with peak plasma concentration reached within 1 to 2 hours. It is widely distributed in body tissues and fluids.
Administration
Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding the required amount of suspension to milk, fruit juice, or water, and should then be taken immediately.
Interaction
Concurrent use of Amoxon and Probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels of Amoxon. Amoxon may affect the gut flora, leading to lower estrogen reabsorption and reduced efficacy of combined oral estrogen/progesterone contraceptives.
Contraindications
Amoxicillin is contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients.
SideEffects
- Diarrhoea
- Indigestion
- Rash
- Pseudo-membranous colitis (rare)
PregnancyLactation
Amoxicillin is classified as FDA pregnancy category B. Caution is advised during lactation as Amoxicillin is excreted in human milk.
PrecautionsWarnings
The possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens should be kept in mind during therapy. If superinfections occur, Amoxon should be discontinued, and appropriate therapy should be instituted.
