Description
Amoxicillin 500mg capsule for the treatment of various bacterial infections
Indications
- Ear, nose, and throat infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Genito-urinary tract infections
- Venereal disease
- H. pylori infection and duodenal ulcer disease
Pharmacology
Amoxicillin is a broad spectrum penicillin effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It inhibits the biosynthesis of cell wall and is rapidly absorbed after oral administration.
Dosage
- Adult:
- 250mg three times daily
- Increasing up to 500mg three times daily for severe infections
- Children:
- 125mg three times daily
- Increasing up to 250mg three times daily for severe infections
- Special Cases:
- Severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection: 3g every 12 hours
- Otitis media: 1g three times daily for adults
- Pneumonia: 500-1000mg three times daily
- Dental abscess: 3g, repeated after 10-12 hours
- Urinary tract infections: 3g, repeated after 10-12 hours
- Gonorrhoea: Single dose of 2-3g with Probenecid 1g
Administration
Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding the required amount of suspension to milk, fruit juice, or water.
Interaction
Concurrent use of Amoxicillin and Probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels of Amoxicillin. Amoxicillin may also affect gut flora and lower estrogen reabsorption.
Contraindications
Amoxicillin is contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients.

Pregnancy & Lactation
Amoxicillin is FDA pregnancy category B. Caution should be exercised when administered to lactating mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
The possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens should be kept in mind during therapy.

- Amoxycillin 500mg Injection:
- Intramuscular: Add 2.5ml water for injection to the vial
- Intravenous: Dissolve in 10ml water for injection
