Description
- Cemoxin 500 mg Capsule is indicated in the treatment of various infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It is a broad spectrum penicillin effective against a wide range of bacteria. The recommended dosage for adults is 250-500 mg three times daily, with adjustments for severe infections. Children may take 125-250 mg three times daily for moderate to severe infections.

Pharmacology
- Broad spectrum penicillin
- Inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis
- Stable in the presence of gastric acid
- Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
- Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids
Dosage
- 250-500 mg three times daily for adults
- 125-250 mg three times daily for children
- 3 gm every 12 hours for severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection
- 1 g three times daily for otitis media in adults
- 40 mg/kg body weight daily in 3 divided doses for otitis media in children
- 500-1000 mg three times daily for pneumonia
- 3 gm for dental abscess, urinary tract infections, and renal impairment
- 2-3 gm for gonorrhea with Probenecid
Administration
- Reconstituted suspension can be administered with milk, fruit juice, or water
Interaction
- Concurrent use with Probenecid may increase and prolong blood levels
- May affect gut flora and lower estrogen reabsorption
Contraindications
- Penicillin hypersensitivity
Side Effects
- Mild and transient including diarrhea, indigestion, and rash
- Rare cases of pseudomembranous colitis

- FDA pregnancy category B
- Excretion in human milk
- Caution advised during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Risk of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens
- Appropriate therapy should be instituted if superinfections occur
