Indications

Pharmacology
- Broad spectrum penicillin
- Effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Inhibition of biosynthesis of cell wall
- Stable in the presence of gastric acid
- Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
- Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids
Dosage
- Adult dosage of 250 mg three times daily
- Increasing adult dosage up to 500 mg three times daily for severe infections
- Children dosage of 125 mg three times daily
- Increasing children dosage up to 250 mg three times daily for severe infections
- Recommended dose for severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection
- Recommended dose for otitis media
- Recommended dose for pneumonia

Administration
- Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding to milk, fruit juice, water
Interaction
- Concurrent use with Probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels
- May affect gut flora, leading to lower estrogen reabsorption
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side effects
- Mild and transient side effects
- May include diarrhea, indigestion, or rash
- Rare reports of pseudo-membranous colitis
Pregnancy lactation

- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Excreted in human milk
