Indications
- Ear, nose and throat infections

Pharmacology
Acts through the inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis. Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
Dosage
- Adult: 250 mg three times daily, increasing up to 500 mg for severe infections
- Children: 125 mg three times daily, increasing up to 250 mg for severe infections
- Recommended doses:
- Severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection: 3 gm every 12 hours
- Otitis media: 1 g three times daily for adults, 40 mg/kg body weight daily in 3 divided doses for children
- Pneumonia: 500-1000 mg three times daily
- Dental abscess: 3 gm, repeated after 10-12 hours
- Urinary tract infections: 3 gm, repeated after 10-12 hours
- Gonorrhoea: Single dose of 2-3 gm with Probenecid 1 gm
- In renal impairment: Dosage adjustment may be required
Administration
Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding it to milk, fruit juice, or water
Interaction
Concurrent use with Probenecid may increase and prolong blood levels. Can affect gut flora and oral contraceptives efficacy
Contraindications
Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

Pregnancy & Lactation
Category B for pregnancy. Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Excreted in human milk, caution during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
Possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens should be kept in mind

Intramuscular: Add 2.5 ml water for injection to Amoxycillin 500 mg injection vial. Intravenous: Dissolve Amoxycillin 500 mg injection in 10 ml water for injection
