Indications

  • Ear, nose and throat infections
  • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Genito-urinary tract infections

  • H. pylori infection treatment

Pharmacology

Broad spectrum penicillin effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria

Dosage

  • Adult dosage: 250 mg three times daily
  • Children dosage: 125 mg three times daily

Administration

Reconstituted suspension can be added to milk, fruit juice, or water

Interaction

  • Concurrent use with Probenecid may increase and prolong blood levels
  • May affect gut flora and reduce efficacy of oral contraceptives

Contraindications

Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

Side Effects

  • Mild and transient side effects
  • May include diarrhea, indigestion, or rash
  • Rarely reported: Pseudo-membranous colitis

FDA pregnancy category B, excreted in human milk, caution during lactation

Precautions & Warnings

Possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens, appropriate therapy required if superinfections occur
