Indications
- Treatment of ear, nose and throat infections
- Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections

Pharmacology
- Broad spectrum penicillin
- Effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis
- Stability in gastric acid
- Rapid absorption after oral administration
Dosage
- Adult dosage of 250 mg three times daily
- Children dosage of 125 mg three times daily
- Severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection dosage of 3 gm every 12 hours
- Otitis media recommended dose of 1 g three times daily for adults
- Pneumonia recommended dose of 500-1000 mg three times daily
- Dental abscess recommended dose of 3 gm repeated after 10-12 hours
Administration
- Reconstituted suspension can be administered with milk, fruit juice, water
Interaction
- Concurrent use with Probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels
- May affect gut flora leading to lower estrogen reabsorption
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Mild and transient side effects such as diarrhea, indigestion, rash
- Occasional occurrence of pseudo-membranous colitis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA pregnancy category B
- Caution advised during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens should be kept in mind
- Appropriate therapy should be instituted if superinfections occur

Reconstitution
- Intramuscular reconstitution: Add 2.5 ml water for injection to Amoxycillin 500 mg injection vial
- Intravenous reconstitution: Dissolve Amoxycillin 500 mg injection in 10 ml water for injection
