Description
- Effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Stable in the presence of gastric acid

Indications
- Ear, nose and throat infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Genito-urinary tract infections
- Venereal disease
- Dental abscess
- Combined with Clarithromycin and Lansoprazole for H. pylori infection and duodenal ulcer disease
- Reduction of the risk of duodenal ulcer recurrence
Pharmacology
- Acts through the inhibition of biosynthesis of cell wall
Dosage
- Adult dosage of 250 mg three times daily, increasing up to 500 mg three times daily for severe infections
- Children dosage of 125 mg three times daily, increasing up to 250 mg three times daily for severe infections
- Recommended dosage for severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection, otitis media, pneumonia, dental abscess, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhea
- Dosage adjustment may be necessary in renal impairment
Administration
- Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding the required amount of suspension to milk, fruit juice, or water
Interaction
- Concurrent use with Probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Mild and transient side effects including diarrhea, indigestion, and occasionally rash
- Rare reports of Pseudo-membranous colitis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA pregnancy category B
- Caution advised during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens
- Appropriate therapy should be instituted if superinfections occur

Reconstitution
- Intramuscular reconstitution: Add 2.5 ml water for injection to Amoxycillin 500 mg injection vial
