Indications

Pharmacology

  • Broad spectrum penicillin
  • Effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
  • Inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis
  • Stable in gastric acid
  • Rapid oral absorption
  • Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids

Dosage

  • Adult dosage: 250-500 mg three times daily
  • Children dosage: 125-250 mg three times daily
  • Specific dosage for respiratory infections, otitis media, pneumonia, dental abscess, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhoea
  • Dosage adjustment in renal impairment

Administration

  • Reconstituted suspension can be administered with milk, fruit juice, or water

Interaction

  • Increased blood levels with concurrent use of Probenecid
  • Reduced efficacy of combined oral contraceptives

  • Penicillin hypersensitivity
