Indications

Treatment of infections in ear, nose and throat

Pharmacology

Broad spectrum against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
Inhibition of biosynthesis of cell wall
Stable in presence of gastric acid
Rapid absorption after oral administration
Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids

Dosage

Adult dosage of 250 mg three times daily
Adult dosage increased to 500 mg three times daily for severe infections
Children dosage of 125 mg three times daily
Children dosage increased to 250 mg three times daily for severe infections
Recommended dosage for different types of infections

Administration

Reconstituted suspension can be administered with milk, fruit juice, water

Interaction

Concurrent use with Probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels
May affect gut flora, leading to lower estrogen reabsorption

Contraindications

Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

Side Effects

Mild and transient side effects
May include diarrhoea, indigestion, or rash
Rare reports of pseudo-membranous colitis
