Indications
- Ear, nose and throat infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections

Pharmacology
Wide spectrum penicillin effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 250-500 mg three times daily
- Children dosage: 125-250 mg three times daily
- Severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection: 3 gm every 12 hours
- Otitis media: 1 g three times daily for adult, 40 mg/kg body weight daily in 3 divided doses for children
- Pneumonia: 500-1000 mg three times daily
- Dental abscess: 3 gm, repeated after 10-12 hours
- Urinary tract infections: 3 gm, repeated after 10-12 hours
- Gonorrhoea: Single dose of 2-3 gm with Probenecid 1 gm
- Renal impairment: may require dosage reduction
Administration
Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding to milk, fruit juice, or water
Interaction
- Increased and prolonged blood levels with Probenecid
- Reduces efficacy of combined oral estrogen/progesterone contraceptives
Contraindications
Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

- Pseudo-membranous colitis (rare)

Pregnancy category B, cautioned in lactating mothers

Reconstitution
- Intramuscular reconstitution: Add 2.5 ml water for injection to Amoxycillin 500 mg injection vial
- Intravenous reconstitution: Dissolve Amoxycillin 500 mg injection in 10 ml water for injection
