Description
- Effective against susceptible β-lactamase negative strains of microorganisms

Indicated For
- Ear, nose, and throat infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections

- Genito-urinary tract infections

- Reduction of duodenal ulcer recurrence
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 250 mg - 500 mg three times daily
- Children dosage: 125 mg - 250 mg three times daily, based on age and severity of infection
- Specific recommended doses for severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection, otitis media, pneumonia, dental abscess, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhea
- Dosage adjustment in renal impairment
- Intramuscular and intravenous reconstitution instructions
Administration
- Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding to milk, fruit juice, or water
Mode of Action
- Inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis
Interaction
- Concurrent use with Probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels of Monamox
- May affect gut flora leading to lower estrogen reabsorption and reduced efficacy of combined oral contraceptives
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to penicillin
Side Effects
- Mild and transient side effects - diarrhea, indigestion, rash
- Rare reports of pseudo-membranous colitis
