Indications
- Treatment of ear, nose, and throat infections

Pharmacology
- Effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Acts through the inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis
- Stable in the presence of gastric acid
- Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
- Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 250 mg three times daily, may increase for severe infections
- Children dosage: 125 mg to 250 mg three times daily, depending on severity
- Specific dosage recommendations for purulent respiratory infections, otitis media, pneumonia, dental abscess, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhea
- Adjustments required for renal impairment
Administration
- Reconstituted suspension can be administered with milk, fruit juice, or water
Interaction
- Concurrent use with Probenecid may increase and prolong blood levels
- May affect gut flora leading to lower estrogen reabsorption
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
