Indications

Pharmacology
Amoxicillin is a broad spectrum penicillin effective against a wide range of bacteria. It inhibits cell wall biosynthesis and is stable in gastric acid, rapidly absorbed after oral administration.
Dosage
- Adult: 250-500 mg three times daily
- Children: 125-250 mg three times daily
- Other:
- 3 gm every 12 hours for severe respiratory infection
- Specific doses for otitis media, pneumonia, dental abscess, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhoea
Administration
Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding to milk, fruit juice, water, and taken immediately.
Interaction
Concurrent use of Moxico and Probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels of Moxico. Moxico may affect gut flora, leading to lower estrogen reabsorption and reduced efficacy of combined oral contraceptives.
Contraindications
Amoxicillin is contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients.

Pregnancy & Lactation
US FDA pregnancy category B. Caution is advised in lactating mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens should be kept in mind during therapy. Appropriate therapy should be instituted if superinfections occur.
