Indications
- Treatment of ear, nose and throat infections

Pharmacology
- Broad spectrum penicillin
- Effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Inhibition of biosynthesis of cell wall
- Stable in the presence of gastric acid
- Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
- Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids
Dosage
- Adult dosage of 250 mg three times daily, increasing up to 500 mg for severe infections
- Children dosage of 125 mg three times daily, increasing up to 250 mg for severe infections
- Special dosages for respiratory infections, otitis media, pneumonia, dental abscess, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhea
- Adjustment needed in renal impairment
Administration
- Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding to milk, fruit juice, or water
- Preparations should be taken immediately
Interaction
- Concurrent use of Moxin and Probenecid may increase and prolong blood levels of Moxin
- May affect gut flora, leading to lower estrogen reabsorption and reduced efficacy of oral contraceptives
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Mild and transient side effects including diarrhea, indigestion, and occasionally rash
- Rare reports of pseudomembranous colitis

- US FDA pregnancy category B
- Caution required during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Possibility of superinfections should be kept in mind
- Discontinue in case of superinfections and institute appropriate therapy
