Pharmacology
Broad spectrum penicillin effective against a wide range of bacteria, inhibits biosynthesis of cell wall, stable in gastric acid, rapidly absorbed
Dosage
- Adult: 250 mg three times daily, increasing up to 500 mg for severe infections
- Children (up to 10 years of age): 125 mg three times daily, increasing up to 250 mg for severe infections
- Specific doses for purulent respiratory infection, otitis media, pneumonia, dental abscess, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhoea
Administration
Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding to milk, fruit juice, or water
Interaction
Concurrent use with Probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels, may affect gut flora leading to lower estrogen reabsorption
Contraindications
Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Mild and transient side effects
- May include diarrhoea, indigestion, rash
- Rare reports of pseudo-membranous colitis

Precautions & Warnings
Possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens, discontinue if superinfections occur
