Description

Broad spectrum penicillin effective against a wide range of bacteria

Indications

Treats infections of ear, nose, throat, lower respiratory tract, skin, soft tissue, genito-urinary tract, venereal disease, dental abscess, H. pylori infection, and duodenal ulcer disease

Pharmacology

Acts by inhibiting cell wall biosynthesis
Stable in gastric acid
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids

Dosage

Adult dosage: 250-500 mg three times daily
Children dosage: 125-250 mg three times daily
Specific dosages for severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection, otitis media, pneumonia, dental abscess, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea
Dosage adjustment in renal impairment

Administration

Suspension can be administered by adding to milk, fruit juice, water
Immediate consumption after preparation

Interaction

Concurrent use with Probenecid may increase and prolong blood levels
May affect gut flora and reduce estrogen reabsorption

Contraindications

Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
