Pharmacology

Amoxicillin is a broad spectrum penicillin, effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It inhibits the biosynthesis of cell wall.

Dosage

Adult: 250 mg three times daily, increasing up to 500 mg three times daily for severe infections
Children: 125 mg three times daily, increasing up to 250 mg three times daily for severe infections

Administration

Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding the required amount to milk, fruit juice, or water.

Interaction

Concurrent use with Probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels of Remamox.

Contraindications

Amoxicillin is contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

Side Effects

May include diarrhea, indigestion, occasionally rash. Pseudomembranous colitis has been rarely reported.

Pregnancy & Lactation

US FDA pregnancy category of Amoxicillin is B, caution should be exercised when administered to lactating mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

The possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens should be kept in mind during therapy.

Amoxycillin 500 mg Injection:
- Intramuscular: Add 2.5 ml water for injection to Amoxycillin 500 mg injection vial
- Intravenous: Dissolve Amoxycillin 500 mg injection in 10 ml water for injection
