Indications
- Treatment of infections due to susceptible organisms
- Ear, nose, and throat infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Genito-urinary tract infections

- Treatment of dental abscess
- Combination therapy for H. pylori infection and duodenal ulcer disease
Pharmacology
- Broad spectrum penicillin
- Inhibits cell wall biosynthesis
- Stable in the presence of gastric acid
- Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
- Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids
Dosage
- Adult dosage of 250 mg three times daily
- Children dosage of 125 mg three times daily
- Increased dosage for severe infections in adults and children
Administration
- Reconstituted suspension can be administered with milk, fruit juice, or water
- Preparations should be taken immediately
Interaction
- Concurrent use of Simox and Probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels of Simox
- May affect the gut flora leading to lower estrogen reabsorption
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

- Mild and transient side effects
- May include diarrhea, indigestion, rash
- Rare occurrence of pseudo-membranous colitis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA pregnancy category B
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Excreted in human milk

Precautions & Warnings
- Possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens
- Therapy should be discontinued if superinfections occur
