Indications

  • Ear, nose, and throat infections
  • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Genito-urinary tract infections
  • Venereal disease
  • Dental abscess
  • H. pylori infection and duodenal ulcer disease

Pharmacology

Effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Acts through the inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis.

Dosage

  • Adult: 250-500 mg three times daily
  • Children: 125-250 mg three times daily
  • Severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection: 3 gm every 12 hours
  • Otitis media: 1 g three times daily for adults, 40 mg/kg body weight daily in 3 divided doses for children
  • Pneumonia: 500-1000 mg three times daily
  • Dental abscess: 3 gm, repeated after 10-12 hours
  • Urinary tract infections: 3 gm, repeated after 10-12 hours
  • Gonorrhoea: Single dose of 2-3 gm with Probenecid 1 gm

Administration

Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding to milk, fruit juice, or water.

Interaction

Concurrent use of Simox and Probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels. May affect gut flora and reduce efficacy of combined oral contraceptives.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients.

  • Potential Excretion in Human Milk: Caution should be exercised

Precautions & Warnings

Possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens should be kept in mind. If superinfections occur, Simox should be discontinued.

Intramuscular: Add water for injection to Amoxycillin 500 mg injection vial. Intravenous: Dissolve Amoxycillin 500 mg injection in water for injection.
