Pharmacology
- Semisynthetic analogue of Cephalosporin C
- Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
- Inhibition of transpeptidase enzyme
- First generation cephalosporin
Dosage & Administration
- Usual adult dose of 250 mg to 500 mg every 6 hours
- Usual pediatric dosage range of 25-100 mg/kg/day
- Maximum daily dosage for children is 4 g
- Different dosage recommendations based on children's weight
- Special dosage considerations for specific infections
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin group of antibiotics
