Indications

Pharmacology
- Kills bacteria by interfering in the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall
- Inhibition of transpeptidase enzyme
- Weakening of bacterial cell wall leading to cell rupture
- Active by mouth
Dosage & Administration
- Usual adult dose: 250 mg to 500 mg every 6 hours
- Severe infection dose: up to 3 g to 6 g daily
- Maximum children's dose: 4 g daily
- Doses for different weights of children
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the cephalosporin group of antibiotics
