Indications

Description
- Acid-stable and semi-synthetic oral cephalosporin
- Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
- Maintains urine concentration well above MIC of susceptible urinary pathogens
Pharmacology
- Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
- Binds to penicillin-binding proteins
- Inhibits final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 1-2 g per day in divided doses
- Children dosage: 30 mg/kg daily in divided doses
- May be taken with or without meals

- No significant drug interactions
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Cefadroxil
Side Effects
- Most commonly reported side effects are gastrointestinal disturbances and hypersensitivity phenomena
Pregnancy & Lactation
- FDA pregnancy category: B
- Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Excreted in human milk, caution during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- May cause pseudomembranous colitis
- Caution during diagnosis in patients with diarrhea
