Indications

Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections
Treatment of urinary tract infections
Treatment of skin & soft tissue infections

Description

Acid-stable and semi-synthetic oral cephalosporin
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
Maintains urine concentration well above MIC of susceptible urinary pathogens

Pharmacology

Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
Binds to penicillin-binding proteins
Inhibits final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis
Arrests cell wall assembly resulting in bacterial cell death

Dosage & Administration

Adult dosage for various infections
Children dosage for various infections
Can be taken with or without meals
Administration with food may reduce gastrointestinal complaints

Interaction

No significant drug interactions with other drugs

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Cefadroxil or any of its ingredients

Well tolerated in general
Commonly reported side effects are gastrointestinal disturbances and hypersensitivity phenomena

No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
Excreted in human milk, caution during lactation

May cause pseudomembranous colitis
Caution during diagnosis in patients who develop diarrhea in association with Arocef therapy
