Description

Dimensions

Pharmacology

  • For injectable administration: usual dose is 2-4 gm daily in four equally divided doses

Interaction

  • Concomitant use of nephrotoxic drugs such as aminoglycosides may increase risk of kidney damage

Contraindications

  • Should not be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

Side Effects

  • Limited to gastro-intestinal disturbances and hypersensitivity phenomena
  • Skin reactions occasionally reported
  • Rare effects include glossitis, heartburn, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, etc.

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Safety in pregnancy not established
  • Excreted in breast milk, caution in lactating mothers

Precautions & Warnings

  • Prolonged use may result in superinfection
  • Administered with care to patients hypersensitive to penicillins
