Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Upper respiratory tract infections like sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngo-tracheo bronchitis
- Lower respiratory tract infections like bronchitis, lobar pneumonia, bronchopneumonia
- Urinary tract infections including cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis
- Skin and soft tissue infections such as abscess, cellulitis, furunculosis, impetigo
Pharmacology
- Semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
- Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Inhibits cross-linking process in bacterial cell wall
Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration for adults and children
- Dosage adjustment necessary in renal impairment
- Injectable administration for adults and children
Interaction
- Risk of kidney damage when used concomitantly with nephrotoxic drugs
- Enhanced renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid
Contraindications
- Not to be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
