Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Upper respiratory tract infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
Pharmacology
- Semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
- Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Inhibits cross-linking process in bacteria cell walls
- Cell wall lysis due to external osmotic pressure
Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration for adults and children
- Injectable administration for adults and children
- Dosage adjustment for elderly and patients with impaired renal or hepatic function
Interaction
- Concomitant use of nephrotoxic drugs may increase risk of kidney damage
- Diuretics and probenecid enhance possibility of renal toxicity
Contraindications
- Not to be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

Precautions & Warnings
- Prolonged use may result in superinfection
- Administration with care to patients hypersensitive to penicillins
- Cephalosporin antibiotics may cause a positive result in Coombs’ testing
- May cause false positive urine glucose result with certain test solutions
- Dosage adjustment necessary in renal impairment
- Contains lactose, not suitable for patients with specific hereditary problems
Use in Special Populations
- Recommended doses for patients not on haemodialysis
- Recommendations for patients on chronic, intermittent haemodialysis
- Higher doses may be required for chronic or severe infections
- Monitoring required for chronic urinary tract infections
- Paediatric dosages should not exceed those specified for adults
Overdose Effects
- Non-specific symptoms including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and gastric upsets
- Supportive treatment
- Gastric lavage necessary in case of large ingestion
Therapeutic Class

Storage Conditions
- Suspension should be freshly prepared
- Reconstituted Suspension should be used within 7-14 days based on storage
- Injection solutions should be used within 2 hours when kept at room temperature
- Retain potency for 12 hours when stored at 5°C
- Do not use later than the date of expiry
- Keep out of the reach of children
- To be dispensed only on the prescription of a registered physician
