Indications

  • Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
  • Upper respiratory tract infections
  • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections

Pharmacology

  • Broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
  • Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Inhibition of cross-linking process in bacterial cell wall
  • Cell lysis due to external osmotic pressure

Dosage & Administration

  • For oral and injectable administration
  • Different dosages for adults, children, and elderly
  • Maximum daily dosage of 4 gm
  • Dosage adjustment in renal impairment

Interaction

  • Nephrotoxic drug interactions
  • Increased risk of kidney damage with concomitant use of certain drugs

Contraindications

  • Not to be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
