Indications
- Treatment of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial infections
- Upper respiratory tract infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
Pharmacology
- Semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
- Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Inhibits cross-linking process in cell wall leading to lysis of bacteria
Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration for adults and children
- Injectable administration for adults and children
- Dosage adjustment in renal impairment
Interaction
- Risk of kidney damage when used with nephrotoxic drugs
- Enhanced renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid
Contraindications
- Not to be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

Precautions & Warnings
- Prolonged use may result in superinfection
- Administered with care to patients hypersensitive to penicillins
- May cause a false positive urine glucose result
- Dosage adjustment necessary in renal impairment
- Contains lactose
- Patients with rare hereditary problems should not take this medicine
Use in Special Populations
- Dosing recommendations for renal impairment
- Higher doses may be required for chronic or severe infections
- Treatment continuation for at least 2 to 3 days after symptoms have resolved
- Regular bacteriological and clinical monitoring for urinary tract infections
Overdose Effects
- Non-specific symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and gastric upsets
- Supportive treatment
- Gastric lavage may be necessary

Storage Conditions
- Suspension should be freshly prepared
- Reconstituted Suspension should be used within 7-14 days
- Injection solutions should be used within 2 hours when kept at room temperature
- Solutions retain potency for 12 hours when stored at 5°C
- Reconstituted solutions may vary in color but does not affect potency
