Indications

Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections
Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections
Treatment of urinary tract infections
Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
Susceptible microorganisms (Gram-positive and Gram-negative)
Indicated for infections caused by sensitive bacteria

Pharmacology

Semisynthetic broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
Inhibits cross-linking process in cell wall of bacteria
Main site of action is the cell wall

Dosage & Administration

Adult dosage for various infections
Children dosage for various infections
Elderly dosage considerations
Usual adult dose for injectable administration

Interaction

Risk of kidney damage with nephrotoxic drugs
Enhanced renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid

Contraindications

Patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

Use in Special Populations

Recommended doses for patients with renal impairment
Dosing for patients on chronic, intermittent haemodialysis
Higher doses may be required for chronic or severe infections
Regular bacteriological and clinical monitoring for chronic urinary tract infections
Paediatric dosages should not exceed those specified for adults

Overdose Effects

Non-specific symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea

Gastric lavage in case of large ingestion
