Indications

  • Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of urinary tract infections
  • Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
  • Susceptible microorganisms: staphylococci, streptococci, E.coli, Klebsiella spp, Haemophilus influenza, Shigella spp, Salmonella spp, Neisseria spp

Pharmacology

  • Semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
  • Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Inhibits cross-linking process of bacterial cell wall
  • Lysis of bacteria due to external osmotic pressure

Dosage & Administration

  • Oral administration for adults and children
  • Injectable administration for adults and children
  • Dosage adjustments for renal or hepatic function

Interaction

  • Increased risk of kidney damage with nephrotoxic drugs
  • Enhanced renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
