Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Upper respiratory tract infections: sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngo-tracheo bronchitis, otitis media
- Lower respiratory tract infections: bronchitis (acute and chronic), lobar pneumonia, bronchopneumonia
- Urinary tract infections: cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis
- Skin and soft tissue infections: abscess, cellulitis, furunculosis, impetigo
Pharmacology
- Broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
- Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Inhibits cross-linking process in cell wall of bacteria
Dosage & Administration
- For oral administration in adults and children
- For injectable administration in adults and children
- Dosage adjustment in renal impairment
- Maximum daily dosage: 4 gm
Interaction
- Concomitant use of nephrotoxic drugs such as aminoglycosides may increase risk of kidney damage
- Diuretics and probenecid enhance possibility of renal toxicity
Contraindications
- Not to be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings
- Prolonged use may result in the development of superinfection
- Administered with care to patients hypersensitive to penicillins
- May cause a false positive urine glucose result when certain solutions or tablets are used in testing
- Lactose content - caution in patients with rare hereditary problems

- Paediatric dosages should not exceed those specified for adults
Overdose Effects
- Non-specific symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, gastric upsets

Storage Conditions
- Cefracef Suspension should be freshly prepared
- Reconstituted Suspension should be used within 7-14 days
- Injection solutions should be used within 2-12 hours depending on storage temperature
- Do not use later than the date of expiry
