Pharmacology
- Semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
- Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Inhibits cross-linking process in cell wall of bacteria
Dosage & Administration
- For oral administration:
- Doses for adults and children based on different types of infections
- Dosage adjustment for elderly and patients with impaired renal or hepatic function
- For injectable administration:
- Usual doses for adults and children
- Prophylactic dose for adults
Interaction
- Nephrotoxic drug interaction
- Enhanced renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid
Contraindications
- Patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Animal studies have not demonstrated teratogenicity
- Safety in pregnancy not established
- Excreted in breast milk
- Caution advised in lactating mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Risk of superinfection with prolonged use
- Risk of cross-sensitivity with penicillins
- Positive urine glucose result with certain tests
- Dosage adjustment necessary in renal impairment
- Contains lactose
- Patients with rare hereditary problems should not take this medicine
Use in Special Populations
- Recommended doses for patients with renal impairment
- Higher doses may be required for chronic or severe infections
- Regular bacteriological and clinical monitoring required
- Paediatric dosages should not exceed those specified for adults
Overdose Effects
- Non-specific symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea
- Supportive treatment required
- Gastric lavage may be necessary

Storage Conditions
- Suspension should be freshly prepared
- Reconstituted Suspension should be used within specific timeframes
- Injection solutions should be used within 2 hours when kept at room temperature
- Solutions retain potency for 12 hours when stored at 5°C
- Do not use past the date of expiry
