Indications

  • Treatment for infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
  • Treatment for upper respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment for lower respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment for urinary tract infections
  • Treatment for skin and soft tissue infections

Pharmacology

  • Semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
  • Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Inhibits cross-linking process of cell wall of bacteria
  • Causes lysis of bacteria due to external osmotic pressure

Dosage administration

  • Oral administration for adults and children
  • Injectable administration for adults and children
  • Dosage adjustment for renal impairment
  • Maximum daily dosage of 4 gm

Interaction

  • Risk of kidney damage with concomitant use of nephrotoxic drugs
  • Enhanced renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid

Contraindications

  • Not to be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

Overdose effects

Storage conditions

  • Freshly prepare suspension
  • Reconstituted suspension should be used within 7-14 days
