Indications

  • Upper respiratory tract infections
  • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Gram-positive bacteria susceptibility
  • Gram-negative bacteria susceptibility

Pharmacology

  • Broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
  • Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Inhibition of cross-linking process in bacteria cell wall
  • Cell wall lysis due to external osmotic pressure

Dosage & Administration

  • Oral administration for adults and children
  • Dosage variations based on infection severity and site
  • Maximum daily dosage: 4 gm
  • Dosage adjustment for elderly and patients with renal or hepatic function impairment
  • Injectable administration for adults and children
  • Prophylactic dose for preoperative use

Interaction

  • Increased risk of kidney damage with nephrotoxic drugs
  • Enhanced renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid
