Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal antibiotic
  • Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Main site of action is the cell wall of bacteria
  • Inhibits cross-linking process of peptidoglycan in cell wall

  • For oral administration
  • For injectable administration
  • Recommended doses for adults, children, and elderly
  • Dosage adjustment in renal impairment

Interaction

  • Nephrotoxic drugs may increase risk of kidney damage
  • Diuretics and probenecid enhance renal toxicity

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

Overdose Effects
