Indications

  • Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of urinary tract infections
  • Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
  • Effective against gram-positive bacteria
  • Effective against gram-negative bacteria
  • Susceptible microorganisms: staphylococci, streptococci, E. coli, klebsiella spp, proteus mirabilis, haemophilus influenza, salmonella spp, neisseria spp

Pharmacology

  • Semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
  • Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Active against penicillinase producing and non-producing staphylococci
  • Inhibits cross-linking process in cell wall of bacteria

Use in Special Populations

  • Recommended doses for patients with renal impairment
  • Higher doses may be required for chronic or severe infections
  • Treatment duration for rheumatic fever or glomerulonephritis resulting from infections with haemolytic streptococci
  • Regular bacteriological and clinical monitoring required for chronic urinary tract infections
