Indications

Upper respiratory tract infections
Lower respiratory tract infections
Urinary tract infections
Skin and soft tissue infections

Pharmacology

Broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
Inhibits cross-linking process in the cell wall of bacteria

Dosage & Administration

For oral administration:
- Dosages for urinary tract infections in adults and children
- Dosages for respiratory tract infections in adults and children
- Dosages for skin and soft tissue infections in adults and children
- Dosage for elderly and patients with impaired renal or hepatic function
For injectable administration:
- Dosage for adults
- Dosage for children
- Prophylactic dose for preoperative use

Interaction

Increased risk of kidney damage when used with nephrotoxic drugs like aminoglycosides
Enhanced possibility of renal toxicity when used with diuretics and probenecid

Contraindications

Not to be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

Precautions & Warnings

Prolonged use may result in the development of superinfection
Administered with care to patients hypersensitive to penicillins
May cause a false positive urine glucose result
Dosage adjustment necessary in renal impairment
Contains lactose
Patients with rare hereditary problems should not take this medicine

Use in Special Populations

Recommended doses for patients with renal impairment
Additional information for all patients regardless of age or weight
Higher doses may be required for severe and chronic infections

Overdose Effects

Non-specific symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and gastric upsets
Supportive treatment needed
Gastric lavage may be necessary if a large amount has been ingested

Storage Conditions

Reconstituted Suspension should be used within 7 days if kept at room temperature
Reconstituted Suspension should be used within 14 days if kept in a refrigerator
Orgacef Injection solutions should be used within 2 hours when kept at room temperature
When stored at 5°C, solutions retain potency for 12 hours
Do not use later than the date of expiry
To be dispensed only on the prescription of a registered physician
