Description
- Polycef is a broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic used to treat infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is indicated for upper respiratory tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections.

Mode of Action
- Inhibits cross-linking process in the cell wall of bacteria, leading to lysis of bacteria due to external osmotic pressure
Dosage Form
- Oral
- Injectable
Dosage Instructions
- Adults: 500mg-1g four times daily or 1g twice daily, Children: 25-50mg/kg daily in divided doses
- Maximum daily dosage: 4 gm
- Elderly: Normal adult dose is appropriate

Interaction
- Concomitant use with nephrotoxic drugs may increase risk of kidney damage
- Diuretics and probenecid enhance possibility of renal toxicity

- Known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

- Reconstituted suspension should be used within 7 days if kept at room temperature or within 14 days if kept in a refrigerator
