Indications
- Essential hypertension

Pharmacology
- Calcium-channel blocker
- Vasodilation
- Reduced peripheral resistance
- Increased coronary blood flow
- Myocardial oxygen supply
Dosage & Administration
- Hypertension: 5 mg once daily
- Maximum dose: 10 mg once daily
- Angina: 5-10 mg, lower dose for elderly
- May be taken without regard to meals
Interaction
- Potentially hazardous interactions with p-blockers
- No interaction with Digoxin
- No interaction with Cimetidine
- No significant alteration of Warfarin effect
- Food does not alter absorption
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to dihydropyridine derivatives
- Pregnant women

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category C
- No adequate and well-controlled studies
- Not known whether excreted in human milk
- Discontinue nursing while administered
Precautions & Warnings
- Take caution in patients with hepatic impairment
- Take caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Use in Special Populations
- Children with hypertension: 2.5 mg once daily
- Elderly: Equally well tolerated at similar doses as in younger patients
- Renal impairment: No correlated dosage changes
- Hepatic impairment: Caution in dosage selection
Overdose Effects
- Excessive peripheral vasodilatation
- Reflex tachycardia
- Marked and prolonged systemic hypotension
- Management of clinically significant hypotension
