Indications

  • Upper respiratory tract infections
  • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections

Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal antibiotic
  • Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Inhibits cross-linking process in bacteria's cell wall

Dosage & Administration

  • Oral administration
  • For adults: urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections
  • For children: otitis media
  • Maximum daily dosage: 4 gm
  • For injectable administration

Interaction

  • Risk of kidney damage with nephrotoxic drugs
  • Enhanced renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
