Pharmacological Action
- Broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
- Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Inhibits cross-linking process of cell wall in bacteria
- Cell wall of sensitive organism contains peptidoglycan
- Causes lysis of bacteria due to external osmotic pressure
Indications
- Urinary tract infections
- Upper respiratory tract infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
Dosage and Administration
- Oral administration for adults and children
- Injectable administration for adults and children
- Dosage adjustment in renal impairment
- Maximum daily dosage 4 gm
Interactions
- Nephrotoxic drugs such as aminoglycosides
- Diuretics and probenecid enhance renal toxicity

- Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
