Indications

  • Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
  • Upper respiratory tract infections
  • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Susceptibility of microorganisms to Sefin

Pharmacology

  • Semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
  • Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Inhibition of cell wall cross-linking process
  • Lyse bacteria due to external osmotic pressure

Dosage & Administration

  • Oral administration for adults and children
  • Dosage for urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections
  • Dosage for injectable administration in adults and children
  • Dosage for elderly and patients with impaired renal or hepatic function

Interaction

  • Concomitant use with nephrotoxic drugs
  • Enhanced risk of kidney damage with diuretics and probenecid

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

  • Contains lactose - caution for patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance

Use in Special Populations

  • Dosing recommendations for patients with renal impairment
  • Higher doses may be required for chronic or severe infections
  • Continuation of treatment for at least 2 to 3 days after symptoms have resolved
  • Regular bacteriological and clinical monitoring for chronic urinary tract infections
