Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive bacteria
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-negative bacteria
- Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections
- Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections
- Treatment of urinary tract infections
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
Pharmacology
- Semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
- Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Inhibits cross-linking process in the cell wall of bacteria
Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration for adults and children
- Injectable administration for adults and children
- Dosage adjustment for elderly patients and those with impaired renal or hepatic function
- Maximum daily dosage of 4 gm for children
Interaction
- Increased risk of kidney damage when used with nephrotoxic drugs such as aminoglycosides
- Enhanced possibility of renal toxicity when used with diuretics and probenecid
Contraindications
- Not to be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

Precautions & Warnings
- Development of superinfection with prolonged use
- Administer with care to patients hypersensitive to penicillins
- Positive result in Coombs’ testing
- May cause a false positive urine glucose result
- Dosage adjustment necessary in renal impairment
- Contains lactose
Use in Special Populations
- Recommended doses for patients with renal impairment and on haemodialysis
- Higher doses may be required for chronic or severe infections
- Regular monitoring required for chronic urinary tract infections
Overdose Effects
- Non-specific symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea

Storage Conditions
- Freshly prepare suspension
- Use reconstituted suspension within 7 days if kept at room temperature
- Use reconstituted suspension within 14 days if kept in a refrigerator
- Use injection solutions within 2 hours when kept at room temperature
- Retain potency for 12 hours when stored at 5°C
- Dispense only on the prescription of a registered physician
